Using headphones with mic (one button)

I just got skull headphones with a mic and one button. Now the way moto x works with headphones is kinda wierd.

Most of the time the button just turns my music player on or off. Why is that?

I can also pick up a call by pressing it, and also hang up by pressing it. But the screen stays on, even in when in my pocket. Any way to make the phone turn off the screen after i hang up with the headphones button?

Thanks,

It depends on the music player, but many recognize a button press as a play/pause. (Google Play Music, Pocketcasts are two that I've used that do - Pocketcasts lets you determine if the app responds to headphone controls.) There is an app called Headset Droid that can give you more control what the play/pause button does, such as double-press to skip to the next track, triple press to rewind to the beginning of a track, long-press to launch voice control, etc. (all configurable.)

Hmmm, not sure about that behavior. Again, maybe the headset droid app can help with that?
