Help Using internet on Wifi only?

Hi all,
just got my Orange San Francisco and it is my first Android, so excuse me for my noob questions.

1) If I switch on wifi, and I go on internet, am I sure it is using wifi and not the 3g or orange data plan?

I will be travelling a lot, and with pay as you go, they charge you 4
