using my own mp3 as a ringtone

Greetings leopalmer,
I'm guessing you had your SD card connected to your computer. The easiest thing to do is reconnect the SD to your computer.
On the card create a folder called ringtones if it doesn't already exist. You can also create a folder called notifications.
Copy the ringtone you created to the ringtone folder. The file probably has to be a .mp3. After your re-insert the card into you phone, your self made ringtone should now be available to use.
Placing a file in the notifications folder, will allow your own creations to be used for text and sms alerts.
There are a number of apps that will allow you to make ringtones and notifications out of music files already on your DS card.
Ringtone maker is on of them.
