Using the Cliq without a SIM

Sorry if this is a noob question, but I just got my phone.

I bought a Motorola Cliq used (the one with the sliding keyboard, not the XT) and I was just planning on messing around with it for a while until I got service on it.

However, when I boot it, it says "Please instert SIM card" and won't let me access anything but emergency calling.

Is there a way around this? I plan on getting Tmobile service so I don't want to go through the hassle of rooting the phone (although I may if theres a good reason to).

I've tried that. But as I said, all I have right now is a screen that says I have to insert a SIM card. None of the buttons seem to do anything. I hold the power button and I can turn on wifi, gps and stuff, but it just comes back to the same screen.
 
if i was you. id just got get one of those cheapo prepaid cellphones from walmart. i think they have a SIM in there. and its really inexpensive. it wont get you minutes, but it'll probably get you past that screen.

Thanks for the tip. However, I went ahead and ordered my Tmobile SIM today. I'd still like to know of a workaround, but I guess I'll just have to be patient and wait a few days.
 
I still have my cliq even tho i got an evo and i like to mess around with it sometimes still and i was having the same problem you were for a while but by clicking the menu button and turning on wifi it should solve the problem
