Using Wifi/Data instead of my 100 mins.

So I've got the $30 Wal-Mart plan on my HTC Amaze. I don't talk on the phone often, but when I do I takes a while to catch up with whoever I'm talking to. I have a skype account and number that I've paid for and would rather use that to make/recieve calls using my data or wifi (i'm usually connected to wifi at home or school) rather than using up those 100 mins. I've been doing research all day on how to make that happen, but nothing I've read has really been all that clear. I'm usually pretty good with tech, but this is like navigating a labyrinth of confusing, poorly written or downright contradictory information. Could someone please explain to me how to make this work? The more detail, the better so that I could learn as much as possible how everything is working together.

I'd already read though that thread and learned what i could from it, but needed more help. That's why I was asking here in the first place, I've never had to post a question before because I always read all that I can first. It's OK though, I've figured it out on my own. Thanks for replying though. I'll post again on this thread after I've done some testing/working out any kinks :D
 
Have you considered using Google voice? If combined with the pay version of grooveIP you can use over 3g.
The lite version of grooveIP only allows use over wifi, but is free. Very little setup required.

(just another option)
 
Like Lordvincent recommended, I've been using Google Voice/GrooveIP (free) over wifi. Since I just switched to T-Mobile ppd on the same plan, I just added the MagicJack app, which is also free. I'm also considering the paid version of Groove IP but I'm testing Magic Jack first.
 
I suggested to a colleague he try MobileVoip, along with a provider such as VoipBuster. He hasn't actually tried it, yet, tho he's set it up. One annoyance he noted (Motorola Droid of some kind on VZW) was that, when he initiates a phone call, a requester pops up, asking him whether he wants to use normal dialing or MobileVoip. Not a problem when using the handset, but it would be for using a Bluetooth device.

He hasn't yet researched whether there are work-arounds.

Did you ask him if there's an option to disable always ask in the settings of the app? GrooveIP actually lets you choose how you want to handle built in dialer preferences (I have mine set to always use GrooveIP, so it allows me to use the native dialer app).
 
so everything is working as long as people call my google voice number so far. havent had much time to test between work and classes. there's no option to dial out with skype as default so i have to directly use the app. also, disabling my t-mobile voicemail doesn't seem to matter. still can't forward to my google voice number so i basically just disabled t-mobile's voicemail for no reason. i've moved recently and don't know anyone out here to borrow phones from, but i'll test from my parent's landline and cell phones when i get the chance to go visit them.
