Help Using wireless on i5700 Galaxy Spica

Hello folks,

Is there any chance to use the internet on a Galaxy Spica only using wireless and not the operator internet connection (edge/wap/gprs)?

I've configured and enabled the WiFi network, but it appears that the phone still uses the operator's network connection(s) and not the WiFi (which is definitely faster and more reliable in my case)

Kindest regards

Check in the settings that you ARE connected with your wiFi network.

For me it works, whenever i am connected to a WiFi network the phone will use that connection for internet.

You can install APNDroid from the market. This will allow you to disable/enable the 3G internet settings.

Thank you. I will also try to re-load networking on the router, maybe this is a problem too.

Yeah, for me when wifi is setup properly it will jump onto the wifi bandwagon and ditch mobile data. However, earlier when I had the settings incorrect it would not connect to wifi. I would also suspect a setting error with your wifi as when i made an error, it did not inform me of one, merely refused to connect.

Hmm... don't think so as it receives the IP address (automatically assigned by the DHCP server)... will come back with feedback soon as I didn't restarted the server yet

One more question. I purchased the Galaxy Spica 3 days ago (Romania) and it has Android 1.5. Do you think it'll be a great thing if I'll upgrade its firmware to 2.1? I've noticed that current 1.5 version has some issues (some apps freeze from time to time and I have to manually reset the phone)
