Help Valiant in the car - USB errors

Hello,

I have a Camry Hybrid 2012, which has a USB port for media. I had successfully used that port with a Samsung Galaxy S 4G (Android 2.3, I believe).

I now have the Valiant, and I am getting USB errors. Different errors if the Valiant USB connection is set to "Media Device (MTP)" or "USB storage device", but neither works.

Any ideas?

What are the errors?

Where is your media stored?

Have you tried different locations ? Internal vs external storage

Are you certain none of your media files are corrupt? (Shouldn't keep all songs from playing)

Not familiar with car connections, I'm afraid.

With Valiant's USB access set to Storage Device, I was given "error 5". With access set to MTP, I was given error 1.

I now noticed that when set to Storage Device, my Windows PC shows 3 connected drives.
The 1st drive has the label "Mobile Partner", and contains the directories "document" and "drivers".
The 2nd drive connects to the micro-SD (external).
The 3rd drive connects to the internal memory, and my music is in the directory "Music" therein.

When set to MTP, Windows shows me the Huawei Y301A1 device with two folders in it, "Internal system storage" and "SD card". The music is in the former.

Error 5 possible solution

Remove all instances of the following from your media names
&
;
:
*
@
$
%
&
#
And all international characters.

If that fails, remove those characters from the media meta data.

Still researching error 1

Fiddling with my music's titles does not attract me...

I do not have entune in the car, I have the simple radio with real buttons. The Valiant is not running an app, I expect the car player to fetch content over the USB interface.

I tried again this afternoon. Connected as "USB storage device", the car said "reading" for 20 seconds or so then showed error 5. I changed the connection to MTP, the car almost immediately gave error 1. Then I changed to "USB storage device" again, and it started playing my music!

I'm not sure what's happening to you, but I'm able to explain the 3 drives appearing on Windows.

The first drive is an ISO file on your phone. This 'CD' includes the drivers for the phone. (Drivers for ADB and whatnot, not 'normal use' drivers)

The second is internal

Third is external.

Perhaps the first fix is try toggling back and forth until your car realizes drive 1 is not valid for media...?

If no new issues arise, awesome!

Otherwise, let me know what's new.

Either way, please report back. Now that I know more about the radio.... I was thinking of an upgrade.... ;)

Based on the behavior described 6/5/2014, I tried this on purpose: connect USB, change to MTP as soon as "USB" shows up on the radio, change back to "USB storage media" as soon as error 1 comes up. System played.
This seems livable, since some fumbling is needed to connect the USB in the first place. As long as a reasonably short and predictable sequence makes it play I'm OK.
