There are 11 major variations of Android on the current market:
1.6 Donut
2.0/2.0.1/2.1 Eclair
2.2 Frozen Yogurt (Froyo)
2.3 Gingerbread
3.x Honeycomb
4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich
4.1/4.2/4.3 Jelly Bean
4.4 KitKat is pending release.
Keep in mind that these versions are not evenly distributed: only a scant few devices run the older versions; Honeycomb was for tablets only. Ice Cream Sandwich and Jelly Bean dominate the market at present.
