Root [Verizon] Can't make or receive calls - but data works

I was test driving some new roms (Carbon 4.3 and CM 10.2) but decided to go back to Synergy 4.1.2. (Which was backed up and I had successfully used the restore file in the past). The bootloader is unlocked (I'm pretty sure.)

The phone boots up and does all the normal data stuff but neither incoming nor out going calls go through.

I wiped the cache and davik and did a factory reset but still no phone.

If it is relevant when I installed Carbon it asked if I wanted to restore the old device ID - which I did.

Do I do the whole Odin rebuild and re-root thing? (I had only intended to fritter away a few minutes, not a few hours ;-)

Addendum:

I suspect this is an IMEI issue.
When I go to "about phone" there is no IMEI listed and most of the entries are grayed out.

Seems like many moons ago I did backup the IMEI but I'm not finding the file with the text string in the file name on my computer. Grrr..

So add to my question: How to restore a missing IMEI if you can't find the backup file?
(And I suspect that this is not right: The EFS folder is empty).

I do know the IMEI number, if that helps.

This video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AmpXFju2XTk had instructions for using Terminal Emulator to create the number but it didn't solve the problem. (No calls and the EFS folder is still empty).

Well, it gets more interesting.

After restoring a SlimRom backup the IMEI is listed in "About Phone" but I still can't make calls. And the "service state" shows as "In Service."

Searching for available networks takes a long time but only shows ATT and T-Mobile. But I'm on Verizon. "Mobile Network State" shows as "disconnected." (no surprise there).

Weird -- and frustrating.

So it's an odd thing.

After returning the phone to Verizon Factory Stock their tech support folks finally suggested doing a Factor Reset from the Settings menu. (They didn't think it would work but it did).

Then I returned to my trusty Synergy Rom (after rooting etc.) and everything was fine.

this is very interesting in that I've got the same symptons however there IS an IMEI listed but I cannot make/receive calls...hmmmm.

This is on my new insurance replacement device that I have had MONUMENTAL problems with (if interested, see my thread "Wow what a week"). Finally I've got everything back in order (mostly) with exception of this! What good is a phone if it won't make or receive calls?! Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

It can't hurt to try the Factory Reset (Under Backup and Reset in Settings). (It worked for me)

Be sure to backup everything first.

Many hours have I spent today TRYING to get my phone working again. I need someone, anyone who has any suggestions to chime in here because I basically have a fricking brick that does connect to WiFi and gets email from the data network BUT is USELESS when trying to make a call or receive a call. I'm out of ideas and my eyes are hurting from reading on the internet.

I have WIPED, Factory Reset, and flashed a totally different ROM but no difference in phone. I removed the SIM card from my wife's S# and tried it but nothing. I took my SIM card and tried on her S3 and it has no issue with calls. So that tells me it's def not the SIM card.

The device was just returned from MobileTechVideos.com after I sent it for repair. They replaced the eMMC chip but that didn't revive my brick so they put a new motherboard in it and sent it back. It has not been able to make or receive calls since putting my SIM card from my cracked-screen-device. I have until 10/6 to return my damaged device to Asurion - the insurance co.

I am so tired of messing with this that I'm giving up tonite. I'll check in first thing in the morning to see if someone has a silver bullet for me! :)

I have the same issue god knows what to do!!!!
im registerd on network can send mms and use mobile data but no calls or sms!

same issue here.

i was able to receive a few text messages, however unable to respond to them. data works great! but no calling or texting.

i tried the cdma type from global to lte+cdma, factory reset states that i should use ruim/sim trie that and NV - nothing really seems to work.

status for signal strength sits at 0db but shows i have near full bars lol

Try checking network mode in settings. Make sure its set to CDMA. My rom works on CDMA or Global on verizon 4g. Also, try powering down, remove the battery & sim/sd card for a few minutes. I've seen that fix network glitches before . . .
