I'll bet that Verizon discovered a bug that they didn't anticipate. (Either with the upgrade or their software used to rollout the upgrades via their cell switches or sites.) Verizon would not promise something unless they were sure they could deliver it ... and then wouldn't postpone what they've promised unless something cropped up that they didn't expect. They would rather have "egg on their face" then tens of thousands of unsatisfied customers.
it feels like crackberry where everyone begs and pleads for the newest OS and then threatens to get rid of their phone cause they don't have the OS, the same one that no one else with that phone has.
