Hey guys I have a few questions about the verizon edge program that I dont want to ask a rep because they honestly dont want people doing this.

If i go for the verizon edge where I can either get a new phone every year or pay the phone off and get a new one.

If I root a phone that I have and will have for that year and it has to be retuned to trade for another. What are the requirements for the trade it in for another. Will having the phone rooted and/or custom rom also include the possibility of trade?

Do they check the phone over software wise or just the physical?

thanks for the help

I haven't seen anything in the Edge agreement that would prevent it. Just says it has to be in working condition without a broken screen.

I would definitely suggest unrooting and flashing back to stock just to be sure. I'm on edge and I've avoided rooting and unlocking the bootloader on my HTC one M8 because I'm worried about being s off as opposed to s on. Don't want any edge day problems.

When I asked about trading in a phone to first get on the Edge program I was told by two people in the store that it could not be rooted. Voided warranty and all that... Only reason I haven't rooted my M8, because I want to trade it in come April 2015...

I checked on that and from the contract and a few of my law friends stated that they can't tell you that. As long as the phone is in working order and no cracked screen they can't tell you can't trade.

Here's the actual language in the agreement. I nothing about rooting.

To qualify, you must both: (1) purchase a new device under a new installment agreement or in conjunction with a new two-year Customer Agreement and subscribe to Verizon Wireless service with us; and (2) return your Device to us in good working condition and without significant damage as determined by us (for example, no cracked screen, no water damage, and the device must be fully operational). If you do not return your Device within 14 days of the receipt of your new device, or if you return a Device with significant damage or deemed not to be in good working condition, you will be responsible for paying in full the entire remaining balance owed for your Device on the date stated on your bill.

I am currently on the Verizon Edge program. I got talked into it when I upgraded to my Note 3 from a Galaxy Nexus.

Let me tell you that GNex was the most rooted and romed device ever. I mean I probably had about 8 different ROMs on it when I traded it in. There was a custom boot screen, a bunch of different tweaks and such right when you get in, and modifications to the CPU.

They took it right away, I even told the guy that this device is rooted/ROMed, does this matter? He was just like, "I didn't see anything" and took the device and gave me a new phone.

I think the reps are more concerned about getting commissions than whether your device is rooted or not.

So it really depends on the rep.

I'm still hesitant to root the M8... I'd like SD card access for Rdio. That would be nice. I wouldn't mind trying out a few ROMs to squeeze some more battery life out of it but I guess I just don't trust Verizon enough when it comes to trade-in time...

Well i do know you don't have to trade the phone in. You can keep it and pay it off but that defeats the purpose of edge. I been very undecided on what I want to to or if I want to anyways.
