Root [Verizon] Fast Charge doesn't turn on

nickdalzell

Extreme Android User
I have a VZW GS3 with an AOSP-based custom ROM on it, that has a toggle known as 'F-charge' meant to quickly charge via USB. unfortunately, when i plug it into my computer (or with the power adapter) and tap it, it remains 'F-charge Off'. it won't enable. am i missing something?

I was just thinking some more....if your kernel DOES support fastcharge, then turn on fastcharge before plugging into the usb....then it will work ;)

i tapped the toggle before plugging it in to begin with. when that did nothing i plugged it in then tried tapping it. no dice. it's part of the ROM itself (in settings-->carbon) so i would expect it to be included with the ROM's kernel...the toggle is something you can add to the notification power widget ribbon via the settings for the ROM itself.

EDIT: tried again, nothing. tapping it makes the little 'click' sound and it flashes indicating the response, but before i plug it in or after, it remains 'F-Charge Off'. it never turns on. i'm doing something wrong i just do not know what.

i wiped the device before i even installed the ROM. that means anything stock (including the kernel) got replaced with whatever came with CarbonROM. the options are part of the ROM itself. it should not require a separate kernel. and with 200+ apps and themes i am not about to risk a bootloop installing one.

i would expect that since the option is baked into the ROM it would stand to reason the dev would have included a kernel to support it, i mean it's the only stable release as of yet and i've gotten no notification to update it yet. i admit i have not quite figured out every single feature yet but a toggle should operate when tapped. perhaps it needs configuring somewhere. i really do not know what it does exactly, i assumed fast charging above the normal charge time. as in if it's 20% it charges as quickly as it would if i plugged it in with 90%. i am always up for faster recharging especially if it's about dead and i need it when i go out soon and cannot wait the two-hour time it takes to charge up again.

Yeah, I had to flash a different kernel to get fast charge to function. Don't believe the baked in kernel supports it. Works fine now :)

what kind of kernel did you use and if you can link it that'd be nice? did you have to wipe to flash the kernel? the only concern is that many third-party kernels cause boot loops meaning i have to wipe data and reset again, and i'm not about to reinstall 200 apps/games!

Be sure to select the correct download depending on the ROM you are running. After installing, wipe cache/dalvik and fix permissions.

none of the data in that thread has anything for Carbon ROM. any people here know of one which is confirmed working in Carbon? i just don't want to chance it. i got over 200 apps/games and data to risk.

I ran that kernel for a short while but it borked my security settings...i.e. when I went to open security settings, it would force close. I also could not access my volume settings.
Each kernel will act differently for each user.

I finally went with this kernel:

Now, you just have to be careful to which version to flash.:)

As far as your apps etc, make a nandroid before flashing and also consider Titanium Backup to backup your apps and data if you are concerned about them (I would be too with that many apps ;) )

Are you a on Carbon 1.8? or do you flash his nightlys?

I am curious, can you post back the Carbon kernel info for me? I was wondering if it came with 3.0 or 3.4.? Thanks :)
