when i goto look on my verizon account for friends and family it says this:

"We're sorry, but your current lines are not eligible for Friends & Family.
To receive Friends & Family, all you need to do is change to an eligible plan by clicking the "Change Plan" button below. It's that simple!
NATIONWIDE TALK & TEXT FAMILY SHARE PRI 700 ANY $90 S4974 0110"

i understand what it is saying just fine and it looks like it would be the exact same price as I'm paying right now...
my issue is: if its the same price and the only thing that is changing is allowing me to have friends and family for free then why do i need to change to a different plan to do that?

is there something else changing that i don't see that i may miss/regret agreeing to in the future?

i definitely see the benefit of adding a few landlines and my one at&t friend to being free minutes for me but I'm worried I'm agreeing to something else too.

Call and make sure your contact isn't going to be extended. I changed something once without realizing I was adding an extra year to my contact now I always call and ask before I change things.

You would be starting a new contract. A new one or two year commitment, perhaps losing any time toward a NE2 credit (or the credit if already available), some of the ancillary packages such as data plans may have to change to currently offered ones and some details of the plans such as overage rates, off-peak hours and so on may differ.

At least in my experience, you can add or drop ancillary services pretty liberally without affecting your basic plan but any changes to the basic plan essentially require a totally new plan with all aspects of it being currently offered options.

i did a little more research and talked to a vzw rep. aparently my current plan doesnt offer it because i dont pay enough. i only have a 700 minute family plan and it requires a 1400 minute plan.
old man, your wrong though the only time a contract is renewed is when you buy a new phone. i have done several changes to my account including moving to a family plan from a stand alone line type plan without affecting my NE2 times or even contract times.
because i did that change about 6 months after my own upgrade the 2 new lines i added have their NE2 dates at a different time of year now then mine is at.

thanks for the input guys!

To expand on what Jasper posted, part of Verizon's "Worry Free Guarantee" is allowing you to change your plans without extending the contract.

God, that sounds like a corporate line.. I've been on this network way too long. LOL

old man, your wrong though the only time a contract is renewed is when you buy a new phone.
My understanding is that if a contract term is complete or if the plan being modified has changed or is no longer offered, then some changes to it may require a new contract. I have also been told by VZW reps on several occasions (online, CSR and in stores) that changing which line was the primary line on our account would lose any NE2 credit on that line, even though they made the error in assigning which line was the primary line when the contract was setup. So my comments may have been erroneous for your situation but I believe there are times that changes to a plan may require a new contract.

Buying a new phone may not necessarily require a new contract. Buying or upgrading a phone at the 1 year or 2 year contract prices would seem to require a new contract, however I believe you could purchase a phone at full retail and activate it without affecting your contract.

yes i think your right. buying a phone at full retail price should not affect your contract.
contracts are very confusing... especially when you havent read most of it. :)

i like your name btw, Old man
it just feels like im insulting you any time i say it, lol
