Root [Verizon] HELP - Can't partition non-vfat: datamedia

zzaq

Lurker
I have attempted to install 4 different AOSP ROMs with CWM and TWRP, but I never succeed. The steps I take are:

format data/factory reset
wipe cache
wipe dalvik cache
install zip from sdcard.

I have tried many, many different variations of this as well, reflashing in odin probably 10 times, but ALWAYS get the same error:

[HIGH]Opening update package...
minzip: Missed a local header sig (at 10)
E:Can't open /blah.zip
(bad)
Installation aborted.
I:Can't partition non-vfat: datamedia
I:Can't format unknown volume: /emmc[/HIGH]

What did I do wrong and what do I do to fix this?

Hello zzaq!
I can try to help, albeit that print out doesn't look familiar to me, sorry.

Let me first ask you this, have you been able to flash a TW rom?
What version of TWRP or CWM are you using?
Is your bootloader unlocked?

Most of the time, roms are flashed via recovery, so your comment about ODIN confuses me :)

Thanks so much for your help.

I am using version 6.0.3.1 of CWM and I have not tried any TW ROMs, because I am simply not interested in using TW.

My boot loader does seem to be unlocked according to what I could find on the net in ways to verify. I followed a guide to unlock it as well.

Also, the reason that I flashed with ODIN was to start from scratch just to be safe. I was having problems applying an OTA update for months and got tired of deferring it so I figured that I would flash a ROM since I'm able to upgrade now if I wish in case I REALLY mess up...

I see:)
What guide did you follow? Did that error message occur in recovery whilst flashing the rom?
At this point, are you rooted/unlocked bootloader etc?

I tried on internal sdcard and received the same errors.

Any ideas?

I'll throw in an idea out there but I don't know if it will work. Turn off your phone and take your SD card out and format it. Fat 32. Just remember to save anything on that card before you format it. Put the ROM on the SD card and put it back in your phone then boot into recovery and flash the ROM:) it's worth a shot but that's all I can think of to do;)
