Help Verizon Kit Kat - new status bar icon

I took the update yesterday morning, and I'm curious if anyone knows what the new icon that is taking up space on the status bar is? I haven't figured it out but would like to hide it if possible.

I think that indicates that you have NFC turned on. Its in settings.

Yep. NFC. Someone with an AT&T S3 asked me a month or so ago what that was when he got an update.
