Verizon Messages

I read about a new free service Verizon is offering called Verizon Messages which allows you to get MMS/SMS messages via wifi. You supposedly just need to enable it from MyVerizon and download the app. I thought this would complete my Nexus 7 since SMS is the only thing I'd like to do but can't.

I was wrong.

For some reason it's not compatible with my Nexus 7 or Asus Transformer, only my Galaxy Nexus. This is silly. My GNex can already send and receive texts, it's a phone. To be really useful, I'd like to install the app on a non-phone. I asked a friend with a Galaxy Tab2 to check his compatibility and he is incompatible as well.

Looking at user reviews it seems others have installed it on N7s or GT2s. I wonder if it's a regional issue. Those who have gotten it installed on a tablet complain it works poorly so maybe I'm sparing myself from additional misery.

Has anyone been able to install this legitimately on their tablet? Does it work well?

I see what you mean. It is available for my Note 2, for my Droid 4, but not for my wireless Xoom (the only one of the 3 devices that I would need it with).

I can see it being useful on a phone if you travel outside Verizon coverage area. I frequently go to Canada for my job and I can't use my phone the without paying roaming charges. Texts are $2 each. And in Europe, the phone doesn't work at all since the are no CDMA carriers. I used Google messenger on Wi-Fi to keep in touch with home but would be easier to be able to send a text.

Someone posted a similar message in the N7 thread about it and say it's working for him/her. I haven't tried it with Tab2 so not sure if it works or not.

Thanks, saptech for the pointer to the N7 thread. Apparently Verizon updated the app and it indeed works on tablets now. My complaint is moot.

No, it does not give 2 notifications. It is the only SMS/MMS client on the tablet so there are no conflicts.
