Root [Verizon] Overclocking Gs3 CPU

Im new to these forums, so if this thread already exists please tell me :)

So i recently rooted my s3 (not international version) and I would like to overclock/underclock my cpu... i downloaded "No-frills CPU Control" https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=it.sineo.android.noFrillsCPU

I dont want to start pushing random buttons and have my s3 explode and kill my whole family (okay, yeah that wont happen... but still, you get my point)

So to overclock the cpu, do I turn up the 2nd option, "Min. clock freq."?
And to underclock, turn down the 1st option, "Max. clock freq."?
I am rather new rooting/rooted apps, so im not going to start pushing stuff randomly :D

How high can i overclock, and how low can i underclock?

And just incase it helps, heres an image of the app:

Sorry on the crappy format of this thread. I just typed the questions as they came back to me.

Hey Daniel! :)
To overclock, bump the first one up. (Max. clock freq)
To underclock bump the second one down. (Min. clock freq.)

you can play around with those settings but do NOT check the box "set at boot" until you know how high or low your device can go.

If you go to high, it may reboot.
If you go to low, it may lag on wakeup.
If you set it too high or low and have the "set at boot" box checked, you will bootloop constantly. :)

Hope that helps a little ;)

Weird... The top one is already at the max it can go to, and the bottom one is already as low as it can go. Is this just a crappy app? :o

You must have a kernel installed on the device that supports over/underclocking functions . . . I assume the device is rooted . . . ?

Also power saving mode must be disabled/un-ticked in settings.

Welcome Daniel! (same name here ;):)).
Like said before, it depends on what kernel you have installed whether you can overclock or not. There's a large list of kernels available for the S3 at XDA:
Verizon Galaxy S III Android Development - xda-developers
Like Mikestony said, it's important that you don't check off the box at "Set on Boot" until you're confident it'll run okay. You may run into a boot loop and restoring a backup is your only option.
When installing a new kernel it's not imperative, but I always make a backup just in case there's an issue.

Ok so what exactly can a new kernel change? I'm currently running cm 10.1.3
Does the ROM matter for kernel compatibility?

Generally speaking no, but some ROMs play better with some kernels.
Lean kernel and Franco kernel are quite popular. I'm not sure what you're currently running, but you should be able to find out in About Phone in settings.
Are you finding your phone to be sluggish at all? I really think the S3 doesn't need to be overclocked. Really no phone needs to these days, they're all quite capable. (just my .02 :))

I'm using the kernel that came with the CM10.1.3

I really just want to underclock for long trips when. I might not be able to charge for awhile
