Verizon Phone Rebate

Has anyone accidentally threw away your phone box before sending in for the mail in rebate? What can be done about this?

Also, please spare me the "you should never throw away the box" lecture it was my wife and I am already pretty pissed about the situation.

I had this happen before and Verizon was very understanding. The customer service rep just ended up giving me account credit in the amount of the rebate.
