Verizon Refurb HELL

I'm on my second refurbished Incredible in a week's time. Original phone's camera lens was unglued or whatever attaches it and there was dust getting underneath it. First refurb looked great, but when I activated it, there was a horrible reverb/buzzing sound so off I went to Verizon to get another one sent. They overnighted it to me, so I got it this morning.

I went through the same procedure as the previous refurb, unmount the sd card from the old one, take it and the battery out and pop them into the new phone and then go through activation. When everything was done and the phone restarted, I got a notification saying the sd card was removed and to insert another one. Problem was, the card was still in and didn't show up in the settings. I tried the card in my old phone, and it worked for about two seconds. The same happened with my computer.

This card worked last night perfectly and now, after putting it in my latest refurb, is toast. I lost all my pictures from the last month or so and I am extremely angry with Verizon. Now, should I be concerned that there is an issue with the sd slot of this phone that will destroy any other cards I put in it? Also, should I see if there's any compensation they can offer for this? I bought this card myself so I would have a larger storage than what they included with the phone and now it's completely useless, so I'm out a memory card. And thirdly, I know this one's a long shot, but is there any way to get the data off it? I wouldn't be nearly so upset if I hadn't just lost irreplaceable pictures.

I hate to say it but 99% of Verizon refurbs do not work. You are going to have to fight with them to give you an upgrade. Just keep sending them back which wont be a problem because you wont get a working phone anyway. Hopefully they can give you an upgrade or something. I would complain about the sd card as well. They will tell you that its not any fault of theirs but you just need to fight with them. I finally got a phone that works since 7/15 when I bought a Droid X on launch day with a bad touch screen.

If the card was erased, reformat it and it should be working again. You should reformat when changing devices anyways, even if they are the same model.

And before you jump down VZW's throat about your faulty devices, take step back and see where the phones are coming from. VZW doesn't repair phones. They send them back to the manufacturers who do repair and send them back to the carriers for (re)distribution. Your beef is with HTC.

If you really are looking to get into a different device i'd call cst svc. They are bit more timid and easily persuaded when it comes to upset customers.

The SD card is completely unreadable on any device, otherwise I would reformat it. I get the same error message when putting it into the old phone and when I put it in my computer, it only showed up as a drive once and every time I plug it in to my computer, it freezes explorer. It has been rendered completely unusable.

I know Verizon doesn't refurbish the phones themselves, but they do know the refurbs suck and should take some action to ensure better replacements. The guy at the store I keep going back to thought it was funny when I said I hoped I wouldn't see him again and outright told someone else I know that they'd be back again.

I'd really like to stick with an Incredible, though. I love this phone. Unless they've got a pile of new Incredibles hidden somewhere that customer service can definitely get a hold of, I'll probably stick with in person service.

Have u tried a Nokia phone by chance? I know there was some weird stuff going on with Windows Phone 7 locking SD cards and only few devices would work with it to reformat it. Don't know why your refurbished android phone would do that though.

I've never had that happen and I've never had to reformat when changing devices. Do you have other SD cards to test with?

I don't have any Nokias laying around to test. I've got my only other sd card in it right now, but I'm trying to avoid saving anything to it, as this phone is starting to go nuts. It's force closing processes and will completely reload the home screens for no reason.

I did take it to a Verizon store that was nearby, since I didn't want to head all the way over to the corporate store yet again. The guy there checked both the phone and card out and said it was the phone and to take it back to the corporate store. I'll be headed there on Monday yet again.

Whatever happened to your SD card, it had to be something physical that the other phone did to it. Have you inspected the connectors on the SD card? I'm kind of scared to put my SD card in a new Verizon Refurb that I just picked up today. I guess I'll back-up the card first before I stick it in the new phone.
