Root [Verizon] Rooted GS3 Wifi Troubles...

Hello all,

First post here so appreciate you bearing with me a bit while I adjust to a new forum....

I recently tried rooting my phone to get around VZW's block on wifi tethering, increase battery life, etc, etc. (normal reasons for rooting). I have very little experience in rooting phones so read a ton of threads in this forum as well as through other websites to try and learn as much as possible.

Unfortunately, I installed the latest 4.3.1 update on my phone (via OTA) so this only made the challenge greater! I finally found what I thought would be sufficient for my needs and followed the instructions here to root my device:

Root Verizon Galaxy S3 SCH-I535 on Android 4.3 VRUCML1

Everything seemed perfect on reboot, but I recently noticed my wifi wasn't on and when I tried turning it on, the button goes to "on" and then immediately back to "off". Since I don't want to burn through all my data, I am trying to find a fix for this wifi issue. I think I have 2 options at this point:
1) fix the wifi problem 2) un-root the device and get it to stop showing "custom" OS installed so I can file warranty claim with VZW. Right now it shows the custom screen on boot-up as well as in ODIN mode and I have read this should be changed to make sure warranty covers my device...

Anyone have advice and some instructions on which solution would be easier?? I tried getting the "custom" to disappear, but once I un-rooted the device, it went back to "custom".

Reflash the CORRECT ROM (or pay someone who knows what he's doing). Then forget about "getting around" Verizon's block on tethering. They block tethered data AT THE OFFICE, so nothing on your phone will change that. (And rooting has nothing to do with tethering anyway.)

I didn't flash any ROMs, so there should be no need to re-install the OS, right?

Also, i'm not clear what you mean about wifi at the office...the tethering is for my personal use on my personal phone while I'm traveling. From everything I have read, sounds like rooting the device will allow me to use a third party tether app without being blocked by VZW.

Can you be a little more clear?

Your last line of your first post states that you unrooted....did that solve your wifi issue?
Or are you trying to get rid of the "custom" text in download mode?

Also of note since you updated to 4.3 which came with Knox, rooting would trip the Knox counter voiding you Warranty and no way to hide that even if the phone itself does not show custom.
