Root [Verizon] Rooting SCH-I535 Questions

Ccunha37

Lurker
Hey everyone - very new to android, just made the jump from the iPhone...A couple questions about rooting.

I'm super-confused after reading the plethora of information on these forums. It's embarrassing because I consider myself to be an above average tech user. Apparently not with Android devices!

Q1: Do I click the blue "download" button on the top of the webpage and then follow the directions below in the brown font on this website?

Q2: Is there something I can do before I start the rooting process to "back-up" my phone in case something bad happens during the process.

Q3: How do I know how which Rom, Radio or Kernel to pick on the Development Forum?

Q4: What is Odin?

Q5: Is this the simplest way to root my phone?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Welcome to AF Ccunha37!
Glad to have you here and glad you ask these question because the better informed you are about rooting, the wiser you will be

First go to this link:
http://androidforums.com/verizon-ga...ot-root-list-utilities-roms-kernels-more.html

There is a great guide and some videos to watch on how to root. I used the guide listed there.

Answer to your question 1:
I am not familiar with that guide but I am familiar with the guide in the link I provided.

Answer to question 2:
As far as backing up contacts, just make sure they are saved in your google/gmail account. As far as apps, you can use MyBackupPro, or Carbon Backup available in the play store.

Answer to question 3:
We can suggest a rom/kernel combo for you such as CleanRom. Roms come with thier own kernels baked in. You can change the kernal later if desired. As far as radios, I have not switched mine yet. Not really a need to in my opinion.
You can switch roms later, but it's just a matter of taste.

Answer to question 4:
Odin is the computer program that is used to flash/install files to your device.
Very simple to use. Just follow instructions exactly.:) They are listed in the rooting guide.

Answer to question 5:
yes it is...in my same link :)

Just take your time, read carefully, fully understand what you are about to do, and ask any question if you are not clear on something. :)
Don't let the rooting process overwhelm you....it really is not that hard once you understand it.....just like anything new, --confusing until understood-- :D
