Lurker
Is anyone else having difficulty using svoice on the Verizon gs3. the simple task will work, but when i try the example questions such as "how high is mount everest", it reverts back to say hi galaxy to wake me up. i already cleared data from app manager? any ideas?

It still needs ALOT of work. Samsung should be embarrased w/ how bad S Voice performs. It's a joke really.

How can I use google voice search instead. I've been using it for 2 years on my DX and it always does exactly what I want and I'm fine with it as is until they improve s-voice or google improves their own in Jellybean.

Can we turn it off? Where is the setting for S-voice? I couldn't figure it out at the verizon store today.

Also I saw AC article on how to disable "double tapping home button for s-voice" for faster button response but couldn't find how to do it.

I just disabled it in the Application Manager.

its in google play

Has anyone had issues with hearing the voice on S-Voice? Sometimes I get the voice and sometimes I don't. Lately, when I ask a question, all I get is my question shown in text with no answer either verbally or written.

Not sure what's going on with it. It seemed to be working last night and now it's pretty much toast.

EDIT: Just hopped over to AC and it seems the same thing is going on there. One guy posted today with precisely the same symptoms I have. I'm not sure if this thing works via a server and it's an overloaded server issue or if this is more of a phone issue.

Same issues here with s voice. I know S voice isn't perfect but I am really starting to think Verizon may have inadvertently done something when they locked the boot loader or installed the software. I have friend that has the AT&T and Sprint version and theirs works better than mine :(

Yea yea. I know there's an app. That's not what I'm asking for. I'm talking about the voice control you get from *any* android phone when you do a long press of the search button and the voice digitizer comes up *REGARDLESS* of where you are or what app you already have up.

There is no search button button this phone. Instead of 4 buttons, there are 3 and that one is gone. I'm assuming that there's some way to activate googles stock voice search from a long press of some button or something. If not, then the phones will go back before I even activate them because I use that feature dozens of times every day while driving.

On my homescreen there is the browser box and the little microphone if I tap that if asks for a voice search. Is that what you are referring too?

I haven't activatd my S3s yet(waiting for cases to arrive today) so I'm not sure. It's the global stock google voice search on any andriod. The on that regardless of what app your in, you can always press the search button and say something like "navigate to <destination>", "map of <location>", "call <contact>", "goto <website>", etc.
It may be simple, but it works for me 99 percent of the time and even does so if the screen is off and I'm in the car driving at night. I don't have to look at the screen to use the feature. I just press the search button and hold it for 2 or 3 seconds.

Is your old phone running Ice cream? I think with advent of S voice and Google's Majel coming soon, Samsung may have decided to leave out a physical search button. I could be totally wrong here. Maybe somebody else can weigh in. I know with S voice I can just tell my phone to unlock and tell it go somewhere and it does it pretty well. I say " hello" or "unlock" and then say navigation or pizza and it searches. Does this help?

I have exactly the same problem that you have, and I actually started a thread on this last night on Android Central but haven't received too many responses yet. Mine will execute simple tasks (open calculator, memo, weather, etc.) but will not answer questions (including all the ones that Samsung suggests asking). I tried it in 3g, 4g, and using a strong wifi signal at 2 different homes with no luck. I tried switching to to English (UK) and back to English (US), but that didn't help either. I also cleared data with no luck. Finally, late last night I did a factory reset on my phone - thinking that maybe I had deleted some important file, but that also didn't fix the problem.

I've had my phone for 4 days and S Voice answered questions surprisingly well the first day I had it and now won't answer any of the same questions. I did a little online research which indicated that S Voice uses Samsung servers. I see that you are also on Verizon (like me) and are in Pennsylvania (I'm in Ohio), so maybe our S Voice is accessing the same server which is perhaps overwhelmed due to so many new phone users trying out the feature all at once. If I hadn't used the S Voice feature very successfully a few days ago and my only impression of it was based on the way it is acting now, I would think it was garbage. But luckily it worked really well a few days ago and hopefully this is just a temporary server problem.

Ken7, are you anywher near PA or OH? And are you using Verizon? If this is a server issue, I wonder whether it is more of a regional problem.

Yeah the first day I had mine it was answering all kinds of questions. Now those questions revert it to "hi galaxy" :/

Hmmm I'm in PA and mine isn't working right

mikes1, I was just about to ask whether you were anywhere in the PA or OH area.....maybe this is regional.

It would be great if anyone having similar issues would mention a general location in their post.
