Verizon Samsung S3 Network Compatibility

I have a Verizon Galaxy S3 but would now prefer to go over to AT&T for better coverage in my travels. Can the phone be made to operate in the AT&T network?
 
If the device is SIM unlocked, it will operate on AT&T's network. However, it doesn't support all of AT&T's frequencies. In fact, it only supports AT&T's EDGE network frequency meaning you'd only have 2G speeds at best.
