Root [Verizon] Think I Screwed Something Up

GreenMan62

Newbie
I rooted my device using Odin and it is completely stock JB. I was using ROM Toolbox to change boot animations. I downloaded the 2 zips...CWM_CustimBootAnimation_Disable and CWM_CustimBootAnimation_Enable. It worked at first but when I was trying to figure out how to change the boot animation to a different one I couldn't figure out how to do it and that is where I think I messed up. I have bootanimation.zip in system/media with rw-r--r-- permissions and bootanimation.zip in data/local with rwxr-xr-x permission settings. When I enable CustomBootAnimation in CW it boots with a black screen and the screen never turns on. When I disable it, obvioulsy it boots normally and everything is ok. Sometimes it will boot up normally, turn black when the boot animation should be, but then return to normal when CustimBootAnimation is enables. I'm not sure what I'm doing there to make that happen. My question is, what am I doing wrong and how can I get my custom boot animations working again? Thank you in advance.

You should just get rid of the custom boot animation app & change your animations manually. Several Boot animations are available for download in many places as zips. My boot animation is in data/local. Delete the boot animation.zip from system/media. Find your favorite animation zip & make sure it is named bootanimation.zip & use rom toolbox`s root browser to move it to data/local & reboot. Rom toolbox can also download & install them automatically if you choose to go that route . . .

I used ROM Toolbox to manually download them. So there should be no bootanimation.zip in system/media? I'll delete that and see what happens. Thank you.

*Edit* Haha that worked, that was easy. Don't know how that zip got in there, but thank you.

The animation will load & play @ boot from either data/local or system/media. I think your issue was that there were bootanimation.zip files in both locations & because of that it didn`t work . . .
