Verizon to take on Netflix

12/06/2011 REUTERS - Verizon Communications Inc plans to launch a standalone service allowing customers to stream movies and television shows over the Web, in a fresh challenge to Netflix Inc and the traditional cable TV business, according to several people briefed on the plan.

Which IF BY PHONE is dumb as can be, since 2gb caps will get people NOWHERE with such a service. This seems pure stupid, unless VZW execs are so narrow minded they think consumers will blindly trip over their 2gb caps and happily pay $10 per gb.

Most consumers are savvy enough to known NOT to fall for data baiting (I hope). VZW must be thinking, "Gosh, look at our net present value with a streaming service! Capped customers are bending over and taking it REAL good :) "

Seriously, most people will figure out that paying $30 to stream a couple movies (assuming standard def and not hi def) and then $10 for each movie after (for data) PLUS pay for the movie is pure and utter tripe.

If mainly a home/wifi web service and not designed to bait 3G/4G customers to suck their data up- cool.

From what I read it looks like something they would be selling for home use not mobile use. But yeah 100% agreed if they were to be trying to expand vcast or something like that and charge data fees for it that would be wrong...As someone with an amazon prime and netflix account I don't think I could justify needing yet another service for streaming movies/tv shows.

It isn't as robust as netflix honestly. I wouldn't get a prime account for the streaming but if you could use a prime account it is a neat little extra.
