Verizon voicemail app

I am trying to set up my voice mail to automatically enter my password so that I can check it from a bluetooth headset without touching the phone.

Searching for instructions I found this;

Note: Generally for Verizon Wireless Voice Mail. 2-4 seconds is sufficient. Continue steps to store & save below.
Tap Menu> Tap Settings> Tap Call settings>Tap Voicemail settings>Tap Voicemail number> Tap in Voicemail number field to bring up virtual keypad.> Tap # to bring up below options:

Pause - Inserts a 2-second pause between the number dialed and the additional numbers.

Wait - Inserts a hard wait that will cause the system to wait for additional input before continuing.
Tap OK when finished.

However, When I try I get this error

Call settings error
Voicemail number change unsuccessful
Please contact your carrier if this problem persists.

I suspect there is some specific format to entering the information that was not explained above. An actual example using perhaps '1234' as a password would be helpful. Thanks in advance.

Assuming your pin is 1234. Comma is pause 1 second and hash tag is enter.
