I agree. It's very annoying. Currently I'm the only one with a data plan but my wife will be getting a android phone in March and my 11 year old son is already complaining that some of his friends have Blackberries and iPhones. +$90 onto my already $100 bill seems like I'm getting shafted.
 
Everything about Verizon is just overpriced and inflexible. On TMobile the Android Unlimited Data plan includes UNLIMITED TEXTS for just $35. And before people start with the whole "Verizon network is soooo much better" schtick, they need to realize that EVERY carrier has good service in metropolitan areas. So if you live in a metropolitan area and you're a VZW customer you're actually throwing away money. :(
 
I agree. My wife has a Centro but has data blocked on her phone because she doesn't want to pay another $30/month.

AT&T and Nextel can't manage to give coverage in Columbus OH

But I wish i could do a shared data on Verizon.

Doesn't seem out of line with what the other carriers do so I'm not sure why you're singling out Verizon. I can't see them offering a family one since they deem themselves as a premium carrier unless a similar competitor pushes them to do so.

Not true at all unless your opinion is solely based on coverage maps which don't always jive with the real world. Every carrier has holes in coverage. I lived in a major one in central Houston (NOT A SMALL TOWN) for years. Not surprisingly, Verizon had coverage in that hole while my carrier at that time didn't.

Exactly ... we are in the same boat. I use many of the options in the phone, so the added cost is worth it. My wife on the other hand wouldnt use many of the options, and we would be throwing away $30 a month. They have family share plans for minutes, they should do something similar for data. Even if the family data plan was $40/month and $5/month for every additional line.

That may be true but I just think VZW is overcharging their customers. Where I live TMO coverage is second to VZW. ATT 3rd and Sprint last. The only time I really notice a difference between TMO coverage and VZW (i've used both) is when i go to the boonies; someplace i try to stay away from, anyway. ;). I'll admit part of the reason I left VZW this past summer is because of the cost and NO Android; now look what happened! (Drooooiiiiiiiddddd)LOL The recent news about TMO HTC phones has me feeling real good though :)
 
This is the main reason I am looking at leaving Verizon for TMobile.

And if the Nexus One drops to T-Mobile and it is looking good, I will gladly pay the ETF and save that money.
 
Wow, digging up an old post, but I just spent quite a bit of time on the phone with the President and CEO of Verizon along with their customer service rep. He informed me that they have thought of the idea of starting such a thing, but nothing as of yet. I will have an email sent to me shortly and when I get it, I'll post it on others to see.
 
Price elasticity is market driven. If nobody is willing to pay for the $30 per month, the price will definitely decrease.

From what I have read, the data rate is going to change across all carriers anyway, thanks to AT&T for taking the lead. There will be a lower rate for casual data users and higher rate for heavy data users.
 
sprint has one, i believe.
it would be nice. i too would get my wife a phone. without data plan....no phone for her. they are losing out on money.
maybe ill just switch to sprint....
