Verizon's "Smartphones Talk Free" promo question

I'm currently on a family plan and I'm looking to upgrade to a smartphone. Just wondering with this promo, if it works to go down on the minutes the family plan gets a month, while my smartphone would have free talk time.

This is one thing i am using to get my parents to let me upgrade to a smartphone. trying to convince them is quite the task at the moment so i am asking for some help, any suggestions?

The way the Smartphone Talk Free promotion works is it just credits the $9.99 monthly access charges to share in your plan minutes, any usage still counts against the plan allowance. So I would be sure using your line wouldn't cause overages if you decreased your minutes,.

In order to qualify for the promotion the secondary line must be due for an upgrade and the phone must be upgraded through two year contract renewal. In other words the phone can't be purchased on ebay or through a private party. You have to be a secondary line on a family share plan of at least 700 minutes. The 9.99 credit is applied for 24 months.

I am already a customer with my family (total 3.) I currently don't have a smartphone. If I upgrade to a smartphone does this qualify for the 9.99 credit? or do we need to activate a brand new additional line to receive credit?
Thanks

They already extended it once or twice so I wouldn't be surprised, however, I haven't heard anything about it being extended yet. I'll try to remember to pop on tomorrow and let you guys know if we've been told about another extension.

We haven't gotten any word today that the promotion will be extended. If I hear anything else I will let you know.
