Video conversion

What program should I use to convert video so that I can play it on the Droid? I have avi and mpg videos but nothing will play. And it tells me my movies are too big for fat32.

I have been using Handbrake - http://handbrake.fr/ - for about a day, the GUI version is extremely friendly and easy to use. You can set it to force widescreen to use the entire display, and it's free.
