Video editor for android????

Yesterday i was talking with my coworker about the new iphone 4. Were both tech geeks and we were comparing the iphone 4 to my nexus one (My co workers actually really liking android but is trapped by itunes and the learning curve of android). When we looked at all the features the iphone 4 offers vs the nexus, the Nexus 1 won out except when it came to video editing. The iphone 4 will have imovie down loadable for 2.99, not to mention that according to my co worker there are native video editing options on iphone. To my knowledge there is none on the nexus or any android phone. While this isnt a deal breaker or a problem it would be nice to edit the videos i shoot with my nexus one. If anyone knows of an app that allows editing please share. Any thoughts on this?

I was wondering about this too. Had some video I wanted to upload to YouTube which needed trimming but didn't seem to be a stock edit program. Any thoughts?

video editing is a very processor intense task. Do the editing on a desktop computer (or at least a laptop), not a phone!

Yeah, it will be interesting to see how well editing works on the iPhone in the real world. I do think that the iPhone has leapfrogged ahead of the Nexus in this regard. That doesn't bother me much, because I seldom use the camera functions, much less the video ones. It's unlikely I would ever want to attempt video editing on a phone. I think the skype like video telephone functions of the iPhone will be far more useful to most people.

im not sure that thats completely true, my lg viewty from 2008 was able to do video editing, it also shot movies in slow motion, and im sure that it didnt have a 1ghz snapdragon processor. Again im not saying that its a big deal, it would just be nice to edit a video before loading it on you tube or facebook. Im certain that some one would find an editor useful besides me.

my thoughts:

It's a feature that would be cool but seriously; I really could care less about editting video on my cell phone.

I know iPhone users are giddy to have a cell phone function that Android doesn't at the moment but at least I can talk on my phone with either hand. :D

If you use Youtube at all, being able to trim videos is kinda critical. I could do it on my dang env touch if memory serves. Not to mention even cheap digital snapshot cameras can do it.

The new droid X comes with video editing software, maybe somone can do a system dump and grab that off and port it over to a droid or any other android for that matter. I myself have just preordered the X today and will be using this feature alot. I had an omni back when thay came out and this was one of the only features i liked about it.

So I'll preface this by saying I'm a big Android guy, but I'm also a video editor. And I have to say, for my industry, the ability to edit videos on the iPhone is a big deal, and it can be done very well: "Apple of My Eye" - an iPhone 4 film - UPDATE: Behind the scenes footage included on Vimeo

I don't see how it's a big deal. No one in their right mind is going to want to edit a 20 minute video in HD on a phone. It just doesn't make sense.

I mean, it's cool to throw together a quick minute & a half video on a phone, but it's just not feasible to do any kind of real editing on a phone.

Not that anyone uses iMovie to edit "real" videos, anyway.

Your probably right in that nobody wants to edit a 3o minute+ movie on their phone but for all the little moments, being able to edit my sons first steps or words, or that silly video of my coworker goofing off, or the insert the million other possibilities, i think it would be very useful. Im a martial artist and i go to a lot of tournaments and graduations so being able to film my friend sparring with the visiting master editing it and linking it to his facebook or youtube would be nice

I read somewhere (maybe here) that the biggest problem for developing a video editor for Android is due to... Android itself! Android is a very opened OS and it allows anyone (meaning phone manufacturers) to choose in which format they want to record a video. To have a universal video editing application, it will need to be able to support several video formats. Too complicated to develop. I am summing up what I read, but it makes sense to me.

well the easy way around that would be to edit in the format that the vieos are recordid in which if im not mistaken is in 3gp

I would really like something that i could at least do some trimming with....I mean i could do trimming, and fading on my LG Dare....Not to mention some high speed video!!

The CLOUD YOUTUBE editor is a POS. Won't even let me do a basic function of rotating the video. Only thing it lets me do is put in background music. As for now, it's pretty gay. I'm sure it will get better tho.

Yes, i too would love to trim the crap bits off a videousing my delisious desire (battery permitting) and upload it to the net. The phone can record video it has hsdpa internet access its seems a bit crazy that nothing out there can trim the ends off?

Its a particular rub when QIK used to do it, now it doesnt and when i emailled them they said they had no plans to introduce it?

Im guessing the real hurdle is the open and multiple formats? It sounds most plausible to me.

I agree, it's pretty sad that the Dare had the ability to cut a video so you could send it via MMS, but Android doesn't have any support for the feature.

Anyone that says editing a video on the phone probably doesnt have kids. It's the single most useful tool for capturing those moments you want to share with the rest of your family, especially those who live out of town.

anyone getting anywhere with this? why should it be so hard to chop 3 seconds off of the start and end of a video ?

This sort of thing is what will make people pick an iPhone over Android. I would almost switch for this. I was able to do this well on an old Sony Ericcson dumbphone, why I can't on an Android 'smartphone' seems really dumb to me.

Middle of September and still no Android VideoEditor!
Maybe we have to move back to Nokia: the new N8 has a 12 mpx camera, bluetooth mic connection, video output - and a good video editor (pic, audio, text...)
So, tel:: Where is the Android video editor for my Desire?
