Viewing attachments in gmail

anyone know if its possible to view attachments in gmail popmail? it says theres an attachment but wont let me view it unless i use the browser...any ideas?
 
Is this another gmail account you're using with the email client? Or is it the regular gmail account used as your default for your phone?

Oh, also, I read that it is better to use IMAP for gmail instead of pop.
 
its my only email address on my phone, so its my default, it will let me download attachment sometimes, shwos the paper click up top wehre you can download it, other times you cant.
