Root Views on downgrading to older rom?

Hi guys, after unsuccessfully trying to get my i9300 to run flawlessly long term on Lollipop, or for that matter on Kitkat, I've been contemplating downgrading to maybe v4.2.2 or even older to get rock solid, fast, flawless performance, and I mean flawless. Surely an older rom would be faster than a newer rom?
What are your views, opinions, recommendations guys? I'm sure there must be a downside, but I can't think of any right now!

I don't know how different the AT&T & VZW versions are, but I still have 4.1.2 on my S3 It's not my primary phone (moved to an S5) anymore, but it is still quick on wifi and off-line. if you can do the downgrade, I'd say go for it.

I would say the huge performance tweeks Google did to KitKat was a huge bonus for everyone. Find a Rom that matches your liking in terms of its visuals and you will be golden. I will say that the OCT Rom of 5.1.1 Lollipop has been the closest to KitKat though... In terms of performance and battery life, they really stepped up their game for that Rom.
