I've tried kingroot and other one click apps to no success.

You can root it with Kingo Root, but do a backup before. It could save you tablet from a soft brick.

Maybe I don't need to root my tablet for what I'm trying to accomplish ultimately try to use tablet specifically as a media center,player etc examp kodi or spmc.

Couldn't find ext to flash twrp my device not listed and

It's a 10.1" tablet with android 5.0

Android has updated to 6.0. Have 256 gb sd and 4gb usb connected don't know if that will help

That's for an older version of the tablet with the same name.

That method is for the RCT6103W46, according to the cnet link the OP provided their model name is RCT6303W87DK and has different specs.

Any root method I can find is for the older version.

@Nathan J Evans if you just want to run Kodi or SPMC, you don't need root. Also, if you've upgraded to 6.0 you can forget about 1-click root apps working, none of them do on Marshmallow and above.

You don't need root for Plex. I have that installed on my unrooted tab and it works no problem.

Where are you installing from and when does it ask for root?

I can't envisage you'd need a rooted Android device to install Plex on Ubuntu (you certainly don't need root to get it to talk to a Windows Plex server). Do you have a guide or a walkthrough you can link to so I can take a look?
