Root [Virgin Mobile] Carbon ROM

Would it be possible to flash the Carbon ROM for the sprint variant onto the SPH-L710VPAMG2 model of the VM GS3 and then use MopedRyder's LTE/MMS mod to fix any radio issues.
I am currently unrooted and not sure if i want to yet but i do have it on my GS3 TMobile phone and i love it to death.
Can someone test this for me and report on if it works and possibly what is wrong with it?
Please and thank you :)

I'm having a lot of mobile data issues on the carbon rom WITH sprint service :o

Hopefully it'll work better for you guys, but its been a constant issue on carbon ROM for me for the past few weeks of nightlies I've tried.

Its too bad, otherwise its an awesome rom

Because you have a MG2 phone unless you flash the Sprint MD4 bootloaders you will have Status 7 errors. (See thread on it)

Additional only the nightly CM 10.3's have to updated kernel that allow the newer GS3 phones to boot.

First goto the developers thread and hit thanks:

Donate to him if you can :)

What I did was take his 9-26 nightly and removed the assert lines - making it possible for you to flash and boot it. I also replaced the kernel with the CM10.3 nightly.

Finally I copied my CM-AOSP-Universal APN mod into it with proper build.prop edits.

I flashed it - I must say its a very nice and sleek looking

I got 3G internet to come up and work fine (no LTE in my area)

I sent and recieved a MMS message

I made a call and sound was fine.

Im still hooked on my MG2_Ryder ROM but if I go to another it would be either Slim or Carbon. I only have Carbon running for about 45min on my phone to test it out.

Download the modified Carbon nightly here:

CARBON-JB-NIGHTLY-20130926-0530-d2spr-modified

All you have to do it flash and boot - no need to flash any of the "fixes" after.

Ryder, I have 4G LTE in my house, so I'll flash it right now and test it among other things.

Edit: Okay well I flashed it and have not data and no icon...

So are they're any roms above 4.1.2 with working 4G LTE available? I keep having to go back to MG2_Ryder, nothing wrong with it though since I can at least use my MHL adapter.

There was no data at all, no data icon... I did full wipe and then flashed carbon that's all. I know you uploaded, the right version since it said modified in the name, but it's a no go...

Did you turn off LTE and just try 3G then test it?

Im wondering if its a LTE issue because it works fine for me (3G mode)

Id also be interested if someone in the LTE area flash the AOSP version 2

I put the Universal V2 into the ROM - but LTE might just work with the AOSP V2.

Okay I flashed carbon and changed the settings to "CDMA/EvDo auto" like you said and 3G apparently came back as the 3G icon was present and the browser worked. I then flashed your AOSP version 2 and LTE didn't work and nothing changed.

I really appreciate your work. Taking the time to that for me and report back helps a bunch.

Here is what I think is going on:

In a CM / AOSP ROM goto: Settings > More... > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names

There you may see the list of APNs your phone is using. I have found the primary one that is "lit up" is the "Global Sprint" APN.

The Global Sprint Bear is "Unspecified". If I try to set it as LTE or EHRPD via the APN file (bearer='"14") it wont connect. If I can get it working without the Global we may be in business.

Like I said thanks - your time is put to good use.

Anytime man, just ask away.

thanks everyone who responded and anyone who responds in the future. this has answered alot of questions for me and i hope you can get this all up a running.
i have rooted my MG2 although im still a little scared to do much else. not necessarily cause im new more-so because this is the phone i need for a daily driver. im the "better safe than sorry" type, unless things are near 100% im squeamish.
you guys have opened new hope for me so just so you know i appreciate everything

do I need anything special for this rom? I don't have cm 10.1 I only rooted my phone and gave it a custom recovery.

Because Carbon may still have some issues I suggest Vanir ROM. Ive been using it for a few weeks and its buttery smooth. Not to much additional stuff to drive you crazy, but very customization.

I got it from here:
[ROM]★★[AOSP]★★[vanir] android 4.3 ★ UNOFFICIAL v.001 ★ 9/22/2013 - xda-developers

You can download it from there or take my update to it:

Vanir_d2spr-ota-eng.codekill13_Unofficial

I simply took their ROM and:
  1. Added a working CM kernel (Works with MG2 Phones)
  2. Added one of my APN fixes
  3. Fix the assert script so no status 7 errors

The APN "fix" works under 3G conditions. LTE is spotty.

when you say LTE is spotty do you mean like the fix works for some and not others or there are times when you just cant get 4g or mms even when in a 4g area? additionally will one have to use 3g conditions to get anything to work period if 4g/cdma is not an option?

The apn settings in it should connect to LTE. The issue is mms. Our phones still can't receive mms in LTE mode. It needs to change to 3G to perform mms.

It has issues going from LTE to 3G and back.

Do you have your own version that I can just install?
