Virgin Mobile coverage future impovements! (in progress

HI everyone! maybe i am writing a thread to VM users, or maybe not , but it targets anyone who is with vm service or want to get on it. so ive been wondering why my 4g wasn't working and i have discovered while searching on the web that virgin mobile was in a nationwide maintenance to improve their coverage, as we all know VM coverage isn't that good, BUT they are improving it right now. isn't that cool? well i think it is. ALSO while they are doing this maintenance it will stop some of your services like 3g or 4g(not sure about it yet, i will update it when i will find out). they said it may aproximatly stop some of your services depending on where you live. lets say you live in mid cities : it should be out for 4 months , yes that's a lot.here is the link! Network Vision | Virgin Mobile USA Newsroom

I saw this a couple weeks ago and was slightly disappointed at first since my coverage was pretty good. However, nothing happened to me, so I guess they haven't come to my neighborhood. But 4 months...! That's a really really long time for potential customers to get fed up and leave and hit up T-Mobile.

yes that's true! if you live in a high population city like New York city it can take up to 11 months a think. which is for me i think way to much, even 4 months is a lot. I mean i have been thinking a lot about switching to t-mobile, 1st because of their coverage, and 2nd because 3g/4g of Virgin mobile sucks. But i think i will stay with them , because t-mobiles phones aren't that good, i mean for the price. And even if some people say that virgin mobile cs is not good, me, i have good experiences with them. And i know they make efforts!

I think they mean it will take that long to complete the change-over, not how long your service will be out. It would be corporate suicide if they stopped service for even a fraction of that time. Even the government would probably get involved.... :)

It would be a good way to go out of business.

Yes, i think you are right. I was kinda wondering why it would be that long.
thank you to have made me realize that! ;)
i will try to contact them about that.

The system improvement took about a week here in the city (Chicago). I doubt you'll even notice anything happening while they make the upgrades, I didn't. I do now see a decent improvement in overall 3G speed. I believe 4G LTE is available here as well now.

SInce they have ben upgrading in my area i cannot even connec
t to 4g yet. But they said it might come back on soon

Since we are on the sprint network does this affect sprint users as well?

i have No idea.. i think they were just upgrading THEIR towers to actually be on sprint. so i don't think it will change something for sprints users. but that is a good question, someone should email them to ask. i will...

As far as I understand we use the same towers as sprint. So there for yes it would effect them as well as we are all on the same network. However, they seriously need to improve the coverage. I'm so tired of having 0-1 bars of service pretty much anywhere I go. And its getting old after being a loyal customer for 2 years. Would have already switched to T-Mobile but they do not have service anywhere in my area... Yet they sell there service here. Funny.

Well.. for me it went great. They came and upgraded in my area, i dont know what they do but now i have a better coverage . I hope for you that they will come sooner.

Sure now they do it, but only cause the whole area is speeding up, I finally get "high" speed internet, on all days but april 1st tomorrow. I won't have to tether off my OV to get a decent downlaod speed anymore.

VM network vision announcement, is just the sprint network vision. VM can't/don't really improve their own coverage, when sprint gets better coverage then we get better coverage. And now that 2013 has started, Sprint has been speeding up their Network Vision and LTE rollouts. Technically announced that they were going to have network vision Loooong ago, they're just speeding up now that its 2013.

Its beyond sprint too.

My area AT&T and Buckeyecable own all the hard lines, so you gotta depend on one or the other for access. less they build sat dish stations at each cell tower.

True some service providers use the hardware/cell towers of other companies, but Sprint do own quite a few of its own cell phone towers/dishes/stations. They even pay regular people like me and you to build small dishes/towers on their houses.

I can say ive never seen a sprint truck in this area, where I am is all the old TV towers and power lines, lots run through here, you see them day and night, few to many trucks constantly working on stuff. like Ants, non stop, but its 90% patch job fixes.

service guys have told me, our are is still full of 1940s wiring,

lead insulated, paper shielded, when it rains things short out........

Donate them some tin foil so they can improve the wiring, I'm pretty sure tin foil is better than paper.

And as I type the guy hooking up my high speed internet, had to leave and drive to an area where his work tablet can get internet to finish the job. Their service wifi don't reach this far.

i tried and it worked fine except where my home is. Had to switch from vm back to net10/att. Sprint does not have any markets getting new vision updates in new york besides the big apple even listed.
i will not consider coming back until i see evidence of actual upgrades in rochester, like lte. I can always use the htc one v as a portable web access device via wi-fi.
