Virgin Mobile Network Extender?

Any one heard of using a Sprint network extender for their VM phone? I am moving, and the place I am moving has no signal. My friend uses Verizon, and has a Verizon Network Extender, and she went from MAYBE one bar, to full 3G service. I was wondering if VM had any options like that.

I have also heard rumors that rooting the phone (I have the Optimus V) will allow it to work with the Verizon Extenders..... anyone heard any truth to that Myth? Just trying to find my options before doing a $200 test with rooting my phone or buying a Sprint Extender..... Thanks.

if u want wireless i reccomend u get clear it the only one right now with good service.

and time warner cable also offers nationwide wireless internet service.

I don't care about the wireless, as I already have Internet where I will be with a wireless router, and I have a laptop, etc. I am more concerned with being able to make/receive phone calls (and not using Google voice or anything). Just to keep things simple with all my friends and family..... no new numbers, or times I can't answer my phone, etc.....

And I think you are right on the Sprint Network Extenders. At least everything I have found online says they don't work.... doesn't make sense to me since Virgin runs on the sprint network..... but who am I to try and figure it out.

The extenders work only if you have a Sprint branded phone and account. The extender provides service to you by connecting back to Sprint via your broadband Internet connection. You need to call Sprint and have them activate/allow the extender to connect to Sprint's servers. They can only do that if you have a Sprint account.

That's what I heard and figured. I was just trying to have someone confirm what I heard. So it's anonymous, it won't work with a Virgin Mobile branded phone..... dang it, looks like I am going to have to switch to Verizon or sprint..... that makes me sad, I liked VM.

Sadly, I went with Sprint today.... got the Galaxy s2. Not bad so far. I am picking up signal around the house now, and I am actually jumping on the Verizon network Extender (as roaming). Full bars as roaming, when it's shut off, one or maybe 2 bars.

Be careful with the roaming, use it too much and you'll be hearing from Sprint on how you choose the wrong carrier. Obviously they have roaming agreements in place but that's more expensive for them as opposed to you staying on the network.

I imagine I will hear from them then, lol. 90% of my usage is roaming, cause that's what I get out here. HOWEVER, I called them to ask about getting the Sprint Airave (extender), and they are sending me a free one, with no monthly cost. So we will see how that works. I was shocked though cause I didn't even ask FOR it, I just asked about it and they said "Oh, you qualify to have one if you drop signal at all where you live".... I was like, ok.
