Root [Virgin Mobile] New S3 User - Looking for Roms

Hey guys,

I am a new owner of the wonderful S3. I was wondering if there were any suggested roms. The most important thing is full functionality and stability. As a secondary wish I would like to run KitKat.

Any suggestions?

The stock ROM is Fully functional and stable. If you want for the KK update, you'll have that too. Or you can run a Kit Kat launcher. There's no reason to void the warranty for things you can do without a ROM.

why wait when you can get kitkat now? i prefer CM11. its very stable and has great battery life.

as for the warranty, you can always flash back to stock rom.
btw, do you have knox aka android 4.3

I read some where where a lot of lower end phone with less resources might utilize kit Kat because kit Kat utilizes resources better

First of all, read all the stickies. Determine if you have Knox. If you do, you will have to be careful not to flash any bootloaders. There's more details in theBritton's Knox sticky.

Kitkat ROMs run beautifully on this phone. The vast majority of the ROMs are for the sprint variant, but can be easily modded for our phone. Check out the sticky by struckn for great instructions on how to do that. There's about two dozen roms for the sprint version on xda. I've been bouncing between cm11 and the kit kat version of carbon. They are both functional and stable.

For a good kit kat ROM without any modding necessary, check out ebildude123's cm11 port for our phone in this forum.

KitKat has the ability to be used on devices with as little as 512mb of ram, but that by itself doesn't guarantee an official update from the manufacturer. They balance the time/costs it takes to create the update with the age of the device.

Generally speaking, the older a device is... the less likely is it to receive an OTA update for a major android version. The reasons are simple: fewer people use older devices, and a manufacturer would rather have you buy a new device than have them spend money to upgrade an older one.

The S3 may receive 4.4, but its no guarantee. The S5 is slated to come out in a few months, and the S3 is nearing the end of its 2 year old product cycle. Hard to tell at this point.

If you're rooted, you can flash 4.4 now

As for the person asking about KitKat, idk if it was faked or not but if you search you can find a screen grab that's clearly the back of a Samsung box but it has KitKat rollout dates on it

S4 and note 3 i believe said January-febuary 2014
S3 and note 2 said march-April 2014

I believe there was another but I forget, and also of course they can change whatever they want by April lol
