Root [Virgin Mobile] OFFICIAL NJ3 OTA FOR VIRGIN MOBILE DOWNLOAD LINK

Can you still root with Towel Root?

I just odin'ed Philz and went back to aicp lollipop. From my understanding towel root only works with kernels before June. Not compatible with Nj3.

Oddly enough I am getting "4G" at home on asop roms. After I updated yesterday I did the usual(prl update etc) and still got 3g at home. Then I went to a new AICP build and same thing it was 3g but since it seemed bugged( couldn't download anything from browsers, keyboards like Flesky and Swiftkey were not working(Flesky for one was a black screen) so I went to a CM 11 M10 build and that is when I noticed 4G with a couple of bars. Checked a couple lollipop builds too such as the first CM 12 build and AICP 12/12. Later AICP builds didn't allow me to select LTE mode so Idk. As for stock I can't check since the back up I made yesterday is crash fest and when I managed to get to network mode it was stuck on 3g mode only. Supposedly, at home it is an LTE fair but never before have I actually gotten it. Who knows :)

looks like a light update. Too bad it isn't odin-able by itself. I hate doing a clean install and then doing a service pack....

The update is on Kies if someone can snag the tar. Then we could use Odin. Unfortunately I guess since I'm running XP I can't, Kies 3 keeps crashing.

I will try to grab it from Kies right now from my wife's phone attached. she has Stock, but rooted. Not sure if it will work.

It says not to try it if it's rooted I wouldn't risk it. My phone is rooted to and when I saw the warning I decided not to try it. Then while browsing through kies checking it out (I've never used it) it kept crashing on me.

Here's how to get the tar with Kies in case anyone wants to try.

In case you need a refresher

Here's a quick guide on how to snag the OTA tarball from Kies before it flashes itself to your phone. I haven't heard of anyone officially getting it yet, but I'm sure it'll be here soon. Timing is everything, so make sure you're quick before the file deletes itself!
1. Click on Start->Run, enter %temp% and press ENTER. First thing before you go into Kies, clear this folder out.
2. Keep that explorer window open and handy. I also suggest open another to where you want to copy it to(create new folder on desktop and keep it open).
Open Kies, let it download. As soon as it starts flashing, look for a folder with the tarball or search for .tar.md5 in the %temp% folder you have open. Copy/paste it to your new folder. Done. Congrats, you’ve just captured the tar ball from Kies.

Thanks, I think something has changed as now there is a small program that downloads into the temp folder. Once that finishes it asks for elevated permissions and then starts a new direct download to the phone while it is attached. I am guessing they got wind of these instructions and changed their kies upgrade method.....

I didn't let it finish...once I saw what it started to do I pulled it.. She doesn't have enough free space to get a nandroid backup and I would be dead if her phone was messed up. I figured it would just fail due to philz recovery being on it but I can't take the risk. I might try later when I can free up 4 GBs of space to get the Nandroid backup completed.

HELP! My daughter's S3 (SPH-L710) got the OTA this morning and it didn't go well. I think package.zip got corrupted or something. Anyway, can't get any further than the Recovery screen (Reboot, Apply Update from External Storage, Factory Reset, etc.)

Called VM, they're no help since they can't email me the update. My thought was to load the update on the SDcard and try to apply it from there.

VM says I may have to replace the phone; not really interested in that route as a new Cricket Galaxy S5 is sitting under the Christmas tree (Cyber Monday special, $294!)

Daughter's begging me to not do a factory reset, so I'm trying to avoid it if possible.

Any guidance on what I can do to get this thing working? I've never rooted or toyed with something like this before. Also, the system recovery screen says "<3e> KOT49H.L710VPUCNDC" if that means anything

Should I put this NJ3 on the SDcard and try to update from there????? Bear in mind that since the phone won't boot Odin won't help me here

Just use the volume down(volume button will scroll through those options) button to go down to "reboot" and tap the power button. The power button will select what you have highlighted.

I've tried that, the phone won't boot. I also tried applying the update from the phone's cache, it was giving me a package.zip error. I cleared the cache and downloaded (what i think is) the correct update file and put it on the SD card and tried updating from that, but it's also giving package.zip errors.... Only thing I have not tried is a factory reset.

From what I have read, I think your only option is to download the above file and place it on SD. Then perform the "apply update from SD Card" option. If that doesn't work you will be left with trying the emergency recovery option in the Samsung Kies Software or the factory reset.

If you're not booting then factory reset won't help you either. You're probably going to have to re install the entire firmware with Odin, or kies.

I agree. Not much more can be done if the factory reset isn't fixing it. Odin will take care of the problem though.

Speaking of Odin, I just flashed the 4.4.3 tar again the other day. I got bored and decided to do a total wipe and fresh flash. LOL!!!

Is that a typo or is there a 4.4.3 .tar?

I am thinking a typo. Been trying to get the latest tar but Kies has changed.
I saw that. It asked me to update it (kies) and it changed. All of a sudden my phone said update downloaded. I thought it was a coincidence. I can't update to nj3 yet because towelroot doesn't work. I can't use Odin on my current PC. Its a little Acer aspire one running windows 7 starter and it cuts off the start button. Same with kies. New computer this weekend

You might be able to move the window up far enough by "Leftshift+right click" the window on the taskbar, click move, use arrow keys to move window to desired location. Moving the mouse after clicking move can screw it up, so be still. At the very least this should allow you to hit tab to select the start button, move it up to make sure its selected, then hit enter to start it.

Hi- where can I download the stock OS ? S3 is also hanging on the logo and I think the last option is to flash via Odin. Thanks.

I thought it might work. Nope. The pointer just goes to the top of the Odin window, then when I try to move it up it looks like it might but just sits there. Click return once I get the outline where I want it, nothing . thanks though I appreciate the help. I'll have a new computer this weekend. This little thing has been bugging me forever. Lol.
