I had that knox security thing on my phone apparently, and it seems like i flashed part of an old firmware (Was supposed to fix camera & SD card on CM11)
and it tripped knox, shutting the phone off from everything.
Note to self, do not **** with the GSIII too much unless what you're flashing is recent and very specifically made for that model.
I brought it back to target today, they exchanged it for another.
Forgive me, but I wonder what kind of "fix" for a camera issue would trip Knox. Stay away from anything bootloader related.
Flashing custom ROMs is a mostly safe practice. I am running Paranoid Android on my S3. Google Camera doesn't work on my phone either. I feel like it's a driver issue. However, I found that using a third-party camera app will fix the problem.
As mentioned, any extSD card 32GB and above that is formatted in exFAT cannot be read by Android ROMs built from source. exFAT formatting is exclusive to Microsoft. It just so happens that Samsung is granted access to use that file system on their devices. That's why Touchwiz ROMs can read cards in that format.
There are plenty of freeware programs that will format a storage device to FAT32; a file system readable to ROMs compiled from source. I reformatted my 64GB extSD card to FAT32 and now, have no issues on Paranoid Android.
Knox does not have to prevent you from having options. Your basic flashing procedure would be:
1. Flash a custom recovery to your S3 using ODIN (I prefer Philz Recovery).
(In Philz, there is factory reset option which will wipe your device specifically for the sake of flashing a ROM.)
2. Once in the recovery, the first thing you should always do is backup your currently stable ROM. If desired, you might backup your apps, as well.
3. Flash ROM of your choosing from a zip file in recovery.
4. Flash GAPPs.
5. Flash MopedRyder's APN fix.
Remember, if after you flash a ROM a component does not work, the first rule of troubleshooting is to try the simplest fix first. (Case in point, try a third-party camera app.) If that doesn't work, ask us here at the forum. We don't bite (like they tend to at XDA), chances are someone's already been there, done that and has a quick fix or answer for you. (Especially for nighties. One build can kill a camera and they'll get it working in the next).
I hope I have helped you.
