Root [Virgin Mobile] [Solved] External Speaker Volume MOD Help Request

Hello all it has been a while since I have posted and this time I am posting on behave my wife. I just picked her up an S3 to replace her aged Moto Triumph. I was going to give her my S3 and pick myself up an S5...but Samsung is a little out of touch with their pricing. They are not Apple...lets just leave it at that.

Sorry for the back story, I have two questions:

1.

I need help increasing the volume of the external speaker at least. (I am talking about the speaker on the backside of the phone for the Ringtones/speaker phone/ notifications.) Normal headset volume can also be increased but isn't the main focus. She uses the phone as an alarm and everything is low volume. She is running the Stock VM 4.4.2 ROM. (Came with 4.3 so she was already Knoxed up, I didn't see an issue having her do the OTA update to 4.4.2)

I found this thread on XDA LINK but it appears not to work since the KK update and no further OP posts have been made.

I am willing to put Philz on it and Root it with SuperSU, but she is not yet ready for the fun of Flashing Nightlies.

2.

Is there a way to do the same above for my S3 on CM11. I have always just dealt with it, but since at one point there was progress I am guessing there is some conf file which could be tweaked.

Thank you all for your time in reviewing my question.

If by external speaker, you mean one you plug into the earphone jack or a Bluetooth speaker, get an amplified speaker with more power. If you mean the internal speaker, you can drive the amp on the motherboard harder (a lot of supposed "increase the volume" apps do this) but all you're doing is increasing the distortion. That may be great for an alarm (it'll jangle your nerves if it's distorted enough, even if you're dead asleep), but you don't want that if you're listening to music.

As for the earphone jack level, please don't. Take it from someone who's lost most of his hearing from loud noise (although not from cellphones) - the greatest digital hearing aids aren't as good as the worst tin ear that hasn't been damaged by loud sounds. Once your hearing has been damaged, hearing what someone is saying becomes a thing of the past. You have to actively listen to them to understand them, and seeing their lips is almost a necessity. (No one with normal hearing can even imagine what "actively listen" means, but it's like trying to see something through frosted glass. The words don't come into your ears, you have to "pull" them from the speaker.) There are reasons the manufacturers drop the volume when you plug something into the earphone jack, and not getting sued for hearing damage is the main one.

Every time I feel my car being rocked by the sound coming from another car, I think "we're raising a generation of people who'll be partially deaf by the age of 40 and stone deaf if they reach 80".

Rukbat, thank you for your response. I was actually talking about the external speaker built into the S3. The speaker which is used for Ring Tones/speaker phone/notifications.

Is there an app already on the Stock S3 to adjust the amp? I have seen a lot listed in the forum I linked too but do not work with KK.

The only thing in the S3 is the volume control. When you turn it up all the way, that's all the volume you're going to get. Driving it harder just increases the distortion.

Thank you all for your ideas. I actually was directed to another option on XDA.
Click Here For flastnoles11's solution. I guess it is something special with the ND8/NDC ROMs.

I did have to flash a custom recover, Root, and flash one of the options from the post above. The 1/2 increase was perfect for my wife.

Thank you all for your help.
