Root [Virgin Mobile] This is rediculous

Ever since I rooted I've just gotten problems...

I've had my phone on the charger all night, woke up and it's 18%. Used it for a little bit down to 3% and I've had it charging for a few hours and it's still at 3%. In the time my friends iPhone charged from 4% to 40% last night, mine went from 12% to 3% WHILST charging.

Also, the front camera on snapchat is really dark, laggy and won't take videos since the root.

What do I do? I want to keep it rooted but... I cannot use it with the battery like this.

Stock ROM?

I don't think it should be an automatic assumption that rooting is the source of these problems; could just as easily (or even more likely) be a hardware problem that has nothing to do with root. The SGS3 is known for issues with the charging port and the battery in general. Ditto for the camera, although that specific scenario is equally likely to be root related, at least more so than your other issue.

If relashing, etc. Is not working. It's probably defective. Send it in for another one.

The battery life for me on CM is amazing.
30% after 10-12 hours :D

What is there to bump? There's plenty of suggestions in the thread. Did you try any?

No, there's not really... Just these;

Sounds like a ROM issue, not a root issue.

Did you do a proper wipe before flashing?

Yes. I'm pretty sure I did.

The simple act of rooting would not have created the issues you are describing. Have you done anything else such as deleting apps, flashing kernel or rom?

I have deleted most apps. I didn't flash any Kernel's, I have CM flashed on the latest version.

Ppl haven't really been jumping on cause there's not much to go on

100% just rooting the phone didn't cause this, or at least shouldn't have, I've yet to see anyone have large issues with root alone

Could be a bug in the version of the ROM you got

Could be what's known as a rouge app, or even, you said you removed almost anything, if you removed something important the phone may be trying to connect to it over and over killing ur battery

Or as I believe struckn said above, batteries and chargers on these phones are known to have issues, actually the biggest issue with all new devices seems to be batteries and chargers

Everyone will most likely suggest the same things to you, saying your pretty sure you may have done that doesn't tell them or yourself if you have actually done it tho

Most ppl will give you what I call the jist list log

1. Make sure you have the newest Phil's recovery on the phone, unless the newest has known bugs of course then you'd want the next one

2. Be sure you have the ROM zip and required gapps on SD card, if your using a cm from eb's page you shouldn't need the signal fix, if you going d2lte you'll probly need it so have that on the card as well just in case

3. Do a full wipe in Phil's, some ppl do it twice, I just manually select the wipe data, cache, dalvik, then I chose the wipe to install new ROM right before I actually install

4. Install just ROM nothing else at all, no gapps, no fixes, nithing, then boot the phone after install, skip any setup stuff, don't set up WiFi or anything just let the phone sit like this, I usually do it for about 10-20 minutes

5. Go back to recovery and install the gapps and do the same as above, boot the phone but skip all setups and just let it sit again 10-20 minutes

6. Now only if the ROM requires moped signal fix install that and again as above let it sit

7. By this point I usually power my device off to save all things and then power it back on and you should be good to go from there

As long as u make sure to turn off WiFi, locations, and actually close internet pages when finished instead of home buttoning, my battery usually lasts me 10-12 hours before it gets down to where I don't need to charge it but I will anyway currently as I'm typing this I left for work today at around 830am with 100% battery, its currently just about 6pm and I'm at 85% still

Also music apps like Pandora, iheartradio, slacker, any of the above will murder your battery life

Ditto tokens210
Close everything you are not actively using. MAPS, Navigation, chat apps anything being 'pushed' to you, sync frequency settings all suck battery fast

The joys of breaking warranty and customizing your phone and using experimental/nightly firmware. Shit breaks. It's gonna happen. Best I can suggest is go back to stock rom, that should correct any functionality issues. As for battery/charging, well thats most likely hardware..

Yes. I'm pretty sure I did.

Letting us know exactly what you did would help us figure out what's going on.

Did you check the md5? What instructions did you follow? What gapps did you flash? What modifications did you flash after?

Each of those is a variable, and each needs to be accounted for and compatibility agreed upon before you flash
, I've yet to see anyone have large issues with root alone
Agreed

Root by itself doesnt actually do anything. Whatever permissions you grant, it grants
im having the same problems with snapchat, using carbon rom

I'm not sure what issue your having, but I've been using carbon off an on for weeks and snapchat has been fine.

Can you expand on the problem?

the front facing camera freezes up and then itll say cant connect to camera at all

What your describing sounds to me at least to be an issue either with the version of the ROM or with the version of the ROM and Snapchat

I believe I may have seen someone mention camera issues with newer carbon but I haven't tried that ROM yet and could totally be remembering seeing something I didn't lol

Of course it could also be plain old hardware failure but I doubt it would work at all if that was the case
