virus warning [bogus?]

[Android Question]

I loaded a GPS app called GPS Status and Toolbox MobiWIA-EclipSim from the playstore and in the add banner I'm being told I need to scan for viruses and that 2 viruses are hacking my phone right now....is this just malicious and misleading advertising or can this app really know what is going on in my phone?

Sounds like malicious advertising. I know the free version of GPS status is ad supported. It is an otherwise safe program. I'm not familiar with the other.
