Help Visual Voicemail Notification

I have a Moto G5 Plus. I am on Verizon Wireless but I didn't buy the phone through Verizon.

Whenever I get a voicemail, I don't get notified until a couple seconds after I open the stock Android 8.1.0 phone app and click on the voicemail tab. I spoke with Verizon about this issue and they tried to help but basically gave up at the end because I didn't get the phone through them.

Any thoughts on how to fix this?

They already tried that.

Does this require a Verizon-specific app? I only buy non-carrier phones and have never seen a visual voicemail app

Could be this service is proprietary to that carrier and it needs their app? Which would normally be pre-installed on phones supplied by them.

FWIW I've never seen "visual voicemail", but then I've never had any carrier supplied phones either.

@Hadron : Verizon has such an app but it doesn't work with Android 8.1. :-(

@mikedt : I looked at that app but it doesn't mention anything about voicemail.

I guess I will just have to go with a thirty party solution.

Why not contact Verizon and ask if they even offer a visual voice mail?
And if you have already, and got nowhere with them, then ultimately it's something that they do not offer. A 3rd party app will probably get you nowhere.
