VLC Media Server?

I was wondering how to set this up if at all possible. I just downloaded the app and am curious as to how it works.

EDIT: If you haven’t already, download and install VLC 1.0 or higher on your computer. From your Android device, search the Android Market and download one of these apps: VLC Remote, VLCMote, Gmote. If you select Gmote, skip the steps below and follow the server instructions at Gmote.org.

Open VLC and select Tools > Preferences. Change the Show settings button (in the lower left-hand corner) to select “All”

Double-click Interface > Main Interfaces > HTTP

Locate your internal IP address. If you don’t know your internal IP, go to Start > Run and “cmd” (Vista users enter cmd in the Start > Search feature). Type “ipconfig” and your address will be revealed as a number that looks something like this – “192.111.1.1″

Enter your IP address and port into the “Host” field. Your number should look something like “192.111.1.1:8080″

Save your new settings.

Launch VLC Remote or VLCMote on your Android device and press Menu > Settings

Enter your IP and port number

Your VLC Remote should be ready to go. If you experience problems, make sure that your Firewall has granted an exception for VLC and the port you assigned. If problems persist, contact the app developers for help (VLCMote Website or VLC Remote Website) or try controlling VLC with Gmote instead.

I found that on a site, but I'm still getting "connection refused" on my Moment. Let me know if any of you get it to work.

I installed GMote a couple months ago, but since have uninstalled it simply because I have no need for it. But setup was straight forward, and it worked without a hitch.

* UPDATE *

Just reinstalled GMote on my DROID (Still had the server installed on my laptop). Fired up the app, fired up the server, my DROID "saw" my laptop server (no IP needed) and asked me for a password. I am listening to my iTunes folder from my laptop on my DROID as I type this update.

Yeah, I tried out Gmote too, but all I can do with that is open stuff on my computer with my Droid. Haven't found a way to look at stuff on my Droid from my computer yet.

Is there a way to connect to your media files using gmote over the internet? The intended purpose of gmote is to be used on the same local network.

I tried by forwarding the correct port but it wouldn't let me connect. Anybody tried this?

Got it working over the internet. I had forwarded the correct port, but the setting didn't take. I changed it again and now it's working. :)
