so:

less than 5 ppl know my number

Did vm sell my number/or they spamming my number?

any one else reciving spam txt msges?

do you do the opt out, ive always been afraid if you opt out they know its a good number? so they spam it more.

Numbers get recycled quickly (supposed to be 90 days, but I don't necessarily believe VM waits that long). I got Spam texts and calls for about 2 months when I switched to VM, still do occasionally, *and* calls/txt obviously intended for at least 2 different people (one of them an apparent drug dealer) who had my number previously. I just ignored them, and in your case, it won't be an issue when you port your old number. I don't think VM is selling numbers or spamming us; it's just the nature of high number turnover.

Not sure, but I did get a spam text 10 minutes after activating my VM Optimus phone. I also got a wrong number text too. Chalking it up to the recycled number theory. After I ported my old number over it was no longer an issue.

When I canceled my sprint account in 2005, they had given my number out within 3 days. Tried to pay my last bill and instead was applied to the new guy's bill and they wouldn't refund the payment.

Wow, that's messed up. I'm pretty sure I didn't pull the 90-day thing from my butt, so law/policy must've changed since then?

I was thinking about what I said up there re: VM not waiting 90 days- I bet they do, but they wait until you haven't made a payment for 90 days and recycle the # right away, instead of waiting 90 days after your account is deactivated.

Just got a call again yesterday for one the people who had my # previously (mind you I've had this # for 8 months). Her dentist really wants her to make an appointment.
