voice alternative to Calendar Quick Add?

Is there a working alternative for Android 4.x users for Calendar Quick Add?

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.xinlu.quickadd&hl=en

I liked it on my Android 2.x devices because I could just click on a homescreen shortcut and then say commands like "at 7pm go grocery shopping" or "Friday at 12pm lunch with David."

Unfortunately this app hasn't been updated since 2011, and crashes due to recent changes in the Calendar API. I just wrote to the author suggesting how he can fix it for Android 4.x, but don't know whether he has abandoned the app. I'll post back here if he fixes it.

Here's an older thread which discusses similar apps, but none of them is simple enough for what I want.

Similarly, apps such as "Utter!" are very powerful, but they do more than what I want, and recognize a very complex grammar. Maybe it's possible to prune Utter's grammar down to just one or two activities, but at least out of the box it doesn't make it easy to add calendar events.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

Replying to my own msg, because I didn't want to make the first message too complex.

There's one more thing that I would like :) and this one is probably easiest to achieve using a powerful tool such as Utter!.

I'm very attached to the simple grocery list app "Our Groceries", which is used/shared by all members of my household. In principle, it should be possible to create a voice command which could correctly interpret instructions such as "Add grocery item milk" or "Add grocery items bread COMMA cheese COMMA paper towels COMMA oranges"

Thanks in advance for any guidance for how to achieve this, presumably using Intents. Ideally I would click on a single homescreen button (dedicated to Groceries commands only), and the resulting interface would only recognize Grocery-related commands.

I used to use Quick Event prior to Google Now.

Thanks, GrouchoM, I tried Quick Event earlier today. But as far as I can determine it requires two clicks to add an event: one to start the app and a second for it to prompt you for voice input. It also isn't quite as smart about days as Calendar Quick Add. If it's 2pm, and I say "eat breakfast at 10am" then Quick Event will try to add it today, but Calendar Quick Add will correctly add it for tomorrow.

Maybe I just don't understand Google Now properly. If, at 2pm, I say "Create New Appointment, Lunch with Karen at 12:30pm" it does two things wrong:

  • it puts it in my default Google calendar (I never use this one; Calendar Quick Add lets me configure the desired calendars in advance)
  • It adds the event "Lunch with Karen at 12:30pm" at 3pm today, instead of adding the event "Lunch with Karen" at 12:30pm
Maybe Google Now would be the best solution, if I could make it do what I want. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
