Help Voice Command, Ok Google, Voice Recorder doesn't work, mic does for calls

Lagunaberry

Lurker
I got my new HTC One M9 in November. I didn't notice I had an issue at first because I was too busy transferring and seeing everything else up. But then I got to the part where I was going to set that up and noticed it's not picking up sound on the recorder, OK Google, etc. I can talk on the phone just fine though, so I'm confused. I called HTC a couple weeks ago,and they had me go in settings>my apps>all apps>sense keyboard and stop it and clear all data. I still couldn't just say OK Google, but when they had me hit the mic icon, it worked....once, then nothing again. Now they are telling me I must call from another phone and do something that I'm not sure I want to just be instructed to do. Is there maybe another fix for this issue? I'm lost and I use my recorder and stuff all the time. Oh, and even my videos have no sound. Wth?

Hi, welcome to Android Forums.

Is the voice recorder actually not picking up your speech or is it that you can't hear the playback - when you hit the record button can you see the graphic responses to your speech input and does it save the file when you hit the stop button?

The audio volume for OK Google responses and voice recording play back are controlled by the volume setting for 'Music & videos' in Settings-Sound & notifications-Volumes and because you have no sound on your videos, I'm wondering what you have that set to?

If all else fails, you could try a 'Wipe cache partition' :-

which has cleared a number of odd glitches on both my M7 and my M9.

It doesn't pick up any sound at all,so no playback either. But calls work fine and Bluetooth calls, just nothing when trying to record or use the OK Google or voice controls...zip,nothing.

Mmm...a couple of things...I'm still puzzled why you have no sound on your videos - there is no direct link between playing videos and voice recording except the volume setting I referred to. I also think it must have been 'Sense Input' that HTC had you 'stop and clear data', and I think voice recording should work independently from 'OK Google', so it is possible that you have more than one problem.

If you haven't already tried it, I think it would be worth doing the 'wipe cache partition' - it only takes a couple of minutes and unlike a full reset does not affect your data or settings. It's also possible that it's what HTC were going to 'talk you through' - either that or a full reset which I would suggest is not required at this stage :).

I'm sorry, I want clear on that. I have sound on videos that I play, like YouTube etc., but nothing when I record my own videos. My settings are all up full on. I can listen to music, watch Netflix or Hulu, whatever, but if I record, say, my dogs outside, it has no sound. But talking on phone is fine. My mic is fine...that's why I'm lost.

I'm gonna try to delete cache partitions. I think that's going to be my best bet right now without wiping everything, which is what I'm trying to avoid, thus, why I'm here with you I'll let you know what happens. I'm thinking that because I did a complete transfer from my M7 to the M9, something crossed over that maybe shouldn't have or something. I have many things backed up many ways and have some voice recorded files that were saved and backed up different ways, and used as ringtones... I sometimes have to yell at myself to get up lol. I'll try this and key you know if it worked. Thanks for your help, even if it doesn't work

Have you tried the 'wipe cache partition' procedure?

Edit - posts crossed!! :D

I hope it's successful, as I said before it has certainly cleared some weird glitches on my M7 and M9 and I do a 'wipe' from time to time as a matter of course.

Didn't work Now phone acting weird. Bummer

The title says answered but I don't see one. This problem happened a lot with the M8. I had the problem many times. If you do an "Advanced Search" at the top of this page and search the M8 forum for "OK Google", you'll get about 8 hits. If you try these suggestions, one will most likely work. First restart your phone in Safe Mode. If it works in safe mode then it's another app interfering.
My bet is another app in the settings under "Device Administrators". Trying unchecking all of them, restart your phone and see if it works again. Recheck one at a time to see which one is guilty. Good luck
