Since being forced to update my Android HTC Magic (on Rogers), we now have the new sense ui interface.
Some may have noticed that the voice dialer is missing. The solution is to download "TopVoiceControl" (plus the TTS engine). There are some improvements to this almost identical app (compared to the non-sense ui version). However, the TTS voice is really-really bad! It is just a marginal improvement over the SAM voice from the Atari / Commodore 64 days! Yes, it is that bad!
Furthermore, if you say, "Dial 459 2291"... instead of LOGICALLY reading that back properly, the TTS engine reads it as "Dialing 4 million 590 thousand and 2 hundred and 91" Stupid!![Eek! ](/styles/smilies/google/eek.png)
Besides not reading the numbers back properly, is there any better speech libraries available? This is embarrassingly laughable compared to the iPhone, Palm, and Blackberry. ??The Android is a superphone??![Thinking  ](/styles/smilies/google/thinking.png)
Before you shoot me down as nitpicking... this TTS feature is an important feature when you need hands free. This is also a feature that is been offered on many phones (smart or not) and with superior quality (compared to Android) for more than five years now.
