Voice search can't understand me

Various apps I have such as Speaktoit and Vlingo which use the google voice search settings to work, don't always understand me. I looked online for information on how to train it to the sound of my voice and saw about switching "personalized recognition" on in settings.

Now, here's the problem, although I'm running the latest version of voice search I don't have that option in my settings. The app came with the phone so I can't uninstall it without rooting the device (which given my "technology skills" I'm not willing to do) but I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the updates with no luck, the option still doesn't show up and I don't know why.

Can anyone help? It's a bit annoying asking Speaktoit to add an item to my task list and it thinking I've said "act 2 cast list".

Hi Alisa. Mine is through Settings>Voice input and output>Voice recogniser settings.

I have no idea why it doesn't. I have a HTC Sensation running 2.3.4

That is strange that you don't have more options on your list, but Google's voice recognition should be pretty good even if you don't have it set to "personalize" your results. Whenever I do have problems its because I get lazy and don't speak clearly, or I'm too far away from the phone, or have too much background noise.
