I set up Voicemail on receipt of the phone, but when I get notification of a missed call and command to check Voicemail, all I get is the Speaking Clock! Why, and what is the remedy? Thanks in advance for any advice.

Voicemail goes to Speaking Clock!

The "command to check voicemail" will have a number associated with it for your voicemail service (I'd expect it will be in your phone app's setting). So the first thing I'd check is that this hasn't somehow been set to the speaking clock's number.
